Bisphenol A (BPA), the dangerous compound used in plastics manufacturing can now be detected everywhere in our environment: in our food, clothing, homes, offices, soil, water: you name it.

‘Since at least 1936 it has been known that BPA mimics estrogens, binding to the same receptors throughout the human body as natural female hormones.’1

What does this mean for Amarillo kids? Numerous scientific studies suggest an increased risk of cancer and neurological problems.

Amarillo infants are the most susceptible to even minute amounts of BPAs. Unfortunately, most infant formula containers and plastic bottles contain BPAs and other toxins.

What can Amarillo parents do to reduce the risk of these chemicals finding their way into their child’s formula or baby food?

Now Is The Time To Improve Your Lifestyle In Vega

Welcome to my Vega entrepreneur blog. Today’s article is a bit philosophical. I want to talk about time. I would argue that time is more precious than almost anything else in life.

How are you managing your most valuable resource?

Are you working full-time for a corporation that may lay you off any day? Are you spending a lot of time training for a new Vega career? Are you able to take the time necessary to nurture your relationships? When was the last time (there’s that word again) you spent a whole day playing?

I am JJ Birden. I run a Xocai Nuggets Direct Sales business from my Vega home. I have been steadily building my Xocai Nuggets income-generating business since November 2011. Now that I have channels of residual income, the checks can come even if I take a three-week vacation with my family.

Sure, the money is great, but guess what I value more than the financial security? More Free Time. That’s right.

I am now living life on my own terms.

I spend several hours a week helping new Xocai Nuggets team members kick-start their home businesses. I absolutely love the challenge of helping Texas people create something unique and powerful in their life.

Most Vega parents have experienced a tantrum or meltdown with their children. My kids usually lose it when they are hungry or need a nap. Some kids flip out if their routine is altered. My Adrian co-worker claims her kids get crazy when there is a full moon.

Lack of sleep and low blood sugar are the usual suspects causing irritability in my Adrian child, but a new study in the Journal of Nutrition points the finger at another culprit.1 Dehydration seems to lead to a low mood in healthy women. The study only included young women, but I did a little experiment on my own kids and noticed when they were mildly dehydrated they were fatigued and irritable.

German scientists reported that flavanol-rich cocoa can reverse the endothelial dysfunction produced by smoking, and European doctors reported that dark chocolate appears to improve coronary artery function in heart transplant patients. There’s good news for nonsmoking, original-heart people, too, since Harvard researchers found that cocoa can blunt the endothelial dysfunction associated with aging.

Rethinking Adrian Schools Welcome to today’s Healthy Adrian Children blog. This site is dedicated to promoting children’s health in the Adrian area.

Unless you have been living in a cave for the last 20 years, you have heard about the obesity epidemic among U.S. children.

There are many worthwhile programs in the Adrian community that promote healthy eating habits and increased exercise for our youngest residents. I came across an interesting article last week that focused on how the design of schools can affect children’s health in general and obesity rates in particular.

‘Many schools were planned without thought given to how students can safely walk or ride their bikes to school. Playgrounds have been cut from budgets. An overemphasis on competitive sports has created a disproportionate amount of funding going to a select group of high profile sports, while minimizing the opportunities for the majority of students who desperately need exercise.’ Joel K. Here are some suggestions for making schools fitness-friendly:

  • Incorporate features of professional health clubs
  • Partner with community fitness centers to create multi-use facilities
  • Combine electronic entertainment and exercise
  • Incorporate movement into lesson plans

As we plan for new and renovated Adrian schools, let’s take our children’s fitness into consideration. As Adrian parents and educators, we can also promote lesson plans that incorporate movement. I also believe we need to look at how our tax dollars are spent. Do competitive sports programs in Texas receive more than their fair share of available funds? Could we better use this money to provide exercise opportunities for all Adrian children?

I encourage you to raise awareness of these issues in your Texas city. The only thing that will spur change is if parents, educators, and government leaders work together to lower the obesity rates in our Texas communities.
